Flaxall Textile Factory

This textile factory closed in February 2006 after just over 60 years of trading citing a lower order volume due to lower cost alternatives from overseas.  50 people went on to lose their jobs.

With manufacturing costs rising rapidly and consumer demand continuing to fall, the market can no longer provide the volume of business needed to ensure the company’s viability.

Member of Parliament for East Antrim Sammy Wilson and Ulster Unionist assembly member Roy Beggs both made statements that the closure is a huge loss to the local economy and urged any organisation who could save the company to do so.
